Our first major playtest of Fae & Fauna goes live today, september 23rd (in a couple of hours as of posting this). Here's what you need to know about the current state ouf the playtest, and what's to come...

First, a message from the devs: - Thank you all again, extra to those who have signed up to join this playtest! This is our first big playtest, and we’re both nervous and excited. We’re a small indie team, and your feedback is incredibly valuable for us as we develop Fae & Fauna with your help.

PLAYTEST INFO

  • How do I know if I got a spot in the playtest?

Check your email connected to your steam account, your invite should be there once the playtest has opened!

  • I signed up for the playtest but didn’t get in now, do I still have a chance?

Yes! The first playtest round will consist of 200 playtesters, with more being let in for the next round, and so on. There is no guarantee that we’ll be adding everyone in the queue unfortunately, but we want as much feedback as possible so there’s still a good chance to be added in.

  • What kind of playtest is this?

This is an Alpha build, and much is still being developed.

  • Where can I talk about this and share feedback?

On the start screen and the menu of the game, you should find a google form linked. Please submit your feedback there. You are also welcome to share screenshots, chat with other playtesters or ask for direct help in the dedicated server channels on discord. You can access these by scanning the discord QR code on the start screen of the game, this invites you to the server as a new member (or adds the role to your already existing ones).

  • What happens to my feedback?

We will review playtest data/feedback and use it to prioritise where we should focus, fix or improve the game.

  • How long is the playtest open?

The exact pacing of the playtest will vary depending on what needs fixing. The playtests will be open for the next few months, with regular updates being made while also adding in more playtesters. You can expect a new update every or every other month. Keep an eye on our socials, discord and steam page for more specific updates.

  • Can I stream, record or share screenshots?

First off, thank you so much for wanting to share our game on your channels! For the first playtesting rounds, we ask that you don’t share anything outside of the playtest specific discord channels however. In there, we’d LOVE to see recordings, screenshots or how you decorated your home. In regards to sharing content publicly, we’ll update you as soon as this changes.

GAME INFO

  • How should I play?

To begin, just press “new game” and finish the quests and intro on Tinker Island, and then venture further into Dewholm and Saltwick. Feel free to explore, do some quests, and play around with the systems. You can write down your thoughts while you play, or fill in the form when you’re done.

In conclusion: Please play through the introduction first. After that, go wild. Explore, collect Faeons, decorate, do quests, fight things, break things. We want to see what you naturally gravitate toward. There’s no right or wrong way to playtest. All feedback is valid, both positive and negative.

  • How long should I play?

As long or as short as you want.

  • How unfinished is the game?

We’ve got most of the “Main” features implemented to a first degree, but expect greyboxed areas, placeholder assets, missing animations/audio, unfinished UI, balancing issues, bugs, etc.

  • What should I focus on when playing?

Is exploration fun? Do you understand what to do? Do Faeons feel enjoyable/useful? Does progression feel rewarding? What makes you want to keep playing/or stop playing? Where does the game feel empty or boring? Your overall thoughts and feelings about the game.

  • What do I do if I encounter a major bug?

We’d love a screenshot/video and/or a description of what happened, what you were doing, and if it could be done multiple times. Report in the “taste test”-channel on Discord.

  • What if I get completely stuck?

If you get stuck, please report it in the playtest-channels on discord and @ the dev team (@cafemanager) and we’ll help you out asap!

  • Should I report ugly/unfinished things?

You don’t have to report: Spelling mistakes, greyboxes etc. We’re still working on all of that!

But please tell us if an area is confusing, hard to navigate, visually boring, or feels noticeably unfinished compared with the rest. If you have cool ideas you’d like to share with us, please do!

Be constructive, but be honest. If you're bored, confused, frustrated, don't understand a mechanic, dislike something, or stop wanting to play; we really want to know. (So we can fix it!)

  • Will my save carry over?

No, your save will not carry over to the finished game. There’s still so much that will change for the final game.

  • Will the game change after this test?

Yes. Systems, quests, balance, world layout, Faeons, items etc. may all change.

  • Are there known issues to look out for?

Yes, we do have a list of known issues (which we’ll keep adding on to during the playtest) that you can find in the discord server as a taste-tester (playtest role in discord).

You can always reach out if you have further questions for us!

Thank you for supporting our journey of making Fae & Fauna.
